A power outage takes the city by surprise, and the main problem (and
surprise), the outage seems to also have taken the sun out. Creatures
called the Ushers swarming the streets, offering citizens to bring them so
safety, promising them food, shelter, reunion with their loved ones, and
maybe even a place in the sun again. Little Suzanna (Riley Ryan) lets
herself be "saved" because she's scared shitless - but then she's only 13
and just wants her mother (Tiffany Doney) back. And still she knows
there's something fishy going on when her Usher gives her an impossible
choice. Sheriff Weston (Mike Ferguson) on the other hand has been a
lawmaker for decades now and he's not afraid to give the Ushers a piece of
his mind. But that said, his daughter (Ashley Davidson) has been taken by
the blackout, and naturally he's desperate to re-unite with her ...
Now of course, the premise of this film doesn't make a whole lot of sense
- but that's exactly what makes this film so unique, it's basic idea is
nothing if not original, and with the actors playing it straight it's also
very relatable, and the atmosphere heavy direction also makes things
palpable. Now add to this a script that relies on fleshed out characters,
and they're all embodied by a solid cast, and you're left with rather cool
genre entertainment.
