The task Mr Kang (Kim Yeong-cheol), big time gangster boss, entrusts
his right hand man Sun-woo (Lee Byung-hun) with is comparatively simple:
He is to watch over his young girlfriend Heesoo (Shin Min-a) for the next
three days, and should she cheat on him, shoot her and her lover both. Sure
enough, Heesoo does cheat on Mr Kang, but when Sun-woo already has her and
her boyfriend at gunpoint, he can't bring himself to shoot the two of
them, since he has developed feelings for the girl - thus he tells them to
never see each other again, and he thinks, this is just as well ... well,
it isn't, as soon enough, because Mr Kang soon has Sun-woo's own right
hand man Min-gi (Jin Ku) and his henchmen torture Sun-woo and bury him
alive, and it's a small miracle that he even survives - but surviving
isn't enough for him, as he soon gets his hands on a bagful of weapons and
shoots pretty much everyone involved in the story, including of course
Min-gi and Mr Kang - but in the end, he too dies, on the receiving end of
another vendetta. Slickly directed but rather empty revenge
thriller, in which surfaces and well-staged fight sequences are
everything, but characters and character motivations are completely left
out - to an extent that in the second half, when Sun-woo exacts his
revenge, you really couldn't care less about him or anyone else in the
film. Also, for the most part, the film takes itself too seriously for its
own good, so when it makes an attempt at comedy about halfway through,
this seems rather out of place. Not really worth your time.
