Overworked PR woman Charlie (Maiara Walsh) and her husband, painter
Atticus (Cameron Cowperthwaite) are invited for a party over to their
phorographer friend Sebastian (Mack Hapka) and his model wife Naomi (Maya
Stojan) - only to find out at the "oarty" that they're the only two
guests. And indeed,
tneir hosts had other ideas with Charlie and Atticus than to just spend a
nice evening with their friends. In fact, Sebastian is presently working
on a series of photographs artfully depicting bondage sex, and he wanted
to persuade his guests to be his models. At first they politely decline
though, neither of them being ok with nudity (even if they've had a
foursome with their hosts some time back), but then again, their lovelife
as grown a little stale of late, so eventually they do agree and ease into
it unexpectedly quickly - also owed to the drugs Sebasitian and Naomi have
administered them of course. Thing is, For Sebastian, this was never just
about finishing his photo series, he also had ulterior motives, motives
that need his models to be tied up ... Now sure, with all the talk
about bondage and nudity, my synopsis might suggest Bight
to be a bit on the sleazy side - which the film actually is not. For one,
no actual nudity is shown, it's all but implied. Then the film doesn't
focus on sex as such half as much as it zeroes in on the powerplay that
comes with it. As a result, this is actually a character-driven film, shot
in a suitably artsy style in equally artsy locations. And a strong quartet
of leads also help to make this one disturbing but for that exact reason
very wothwhile movie.
