It seems to be a slow night that four policemen (Gorkem Kasal, Muharrem
Bayrak, Mehmet Fatih Dokgoz, Sabahattin Yakut) and their chief (Ergun
Kuyucu) spend at some diner in the middle of nowhere eating and drinking,
when they receive a call for assistance ... but on the way there they run
over what appeared to be a naked men, then run their car into a lake. They
finally make it to the place they've been called to and find it to be an
abandoned police station - that turns out to be inhabited by what seems to
be a vicious cult led by the growth-restricted but wildly sadistic
"father" (Mehmet Cerrahoglu), and they soon make the policemen
part of their grotesque rituals - and each of them is forced to live
through his worst nightmare ... Baskin is a nightmare
ride, that's for sure, it's gory and violent and grotesque and savage ...
and a very competent directorial effort keeps it together and manages to
tear the audience into the proceedings - and that said, at the same time Baskin
is far from being a perfect film: Sure, it's handled very competently,
manages to shock the shit out of the audience, and the acting is on a very
high level - but storywise the film has rather little to offer, it just
seems to fall from one shocking setpiece into the next. That said, at
least in gruesomeness the film doesn't disappoint and gorehounds should
get a kick out of that one!
