A farmgirl (Mabel Normand) thinks she overhears two villains planning
to burgle her farm, so she locks herself inside the house and calls the
police. Mum (Dot Farley) and dad (Nick Cogley) race to the girl's rescue,
but when they find their house's door locked, they think the burglars are
inside while the girl mistakes her parents for the burglars trying to
break in, and now she barricades herself in. The situation is resolved
only after dad has used all his force to break the door open and has
almost shot his little girl, mistaking her for the burglar. It's only now
that the cops (Raymond Hatton, Edgar Kennedy, Ford Sterling, Al St.John)
arrive, too late for any action - but at least everyone can witness the
cow having a calve. An early Keystone Cops-movie
that might not be particularly funny and had the Keystone Cops
only as supporting characters(and not even in their regular outfits)
- yet it's of great importance concerning the troupe as such, as it was
the film that put the Keystone Cops - which have been in
their own series of shorts since 1912 - on the map, most possibly
because of the fikn's star Mabel Normand, whose popularity Bangville
Police successfully uses to promote the comic cops.
