Mayberry police station is to house two convicts (Jack Lambert, Billy
Halop) for a day, and deputy Barney (Don Knotts) is determined to show
them that being held here is just as tough as being held in an actual
penitentary - but he makes a mess about it, repeatedly setting them free
by mistake, hiring an idiotic deputy (Jim Nabors) of his own, and
eventually arresting the cops (George Kennedy, Richard Angarola) who have
come to arrest the convicts accomplices (Lewis Charles, Arthur Kendall).
In the end though, sheriff Andy (Andy Griffith) cleans up the whole mess
and sees to it that Barney doesn't lose face. Not exactly great
comedy, but one of the better episodes of the Andy Griffith Show, and one
of the few that'S pretty much kitsch-free.
