The beginning of this documentary takes us all the way back to the
first recorded UFO sightings from 1896, when several cigar-shaped objects
were seen over the USA. One crashed, even, and its pilot died.
Interestingly, the pilot was buried in the local cemetery despite the
film's insistence he was an alien. Now cigar-shaped flying objects ... the
Zeeppelin, by coincidence, was developed in detail in 1893 and patented in
1895 ... and for some reason, the movie never makes that connection. Moving
on to 1908 and the Tunguska event, when an asteroid or comet
crashed near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in Siberia, and the impact by
far exceeded the impact of the nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki -
thus, the film reasons, the asteroid or comet was actually an
atomic-powered alien spaceship ... and at the same time the movie does not
explain the lack of nuclear fall-out or residue, which should be easily
measurable even today. 1942, a flying object was seen over LA.
Extraterrestrial? The movie says yes, but in wartimes (the USA have
entered World War II only months prior to the event), might it not have
been just a new kind of spy plane or something? Maybe even a weather
balloon that was confused for something else in the excitement? Roswell
1947 - well, we all know the story, but the film presents the UFO-theory
as fact without hint of a proof. 1952, weird lights over the White House
and the Capitol. The official explanation was a weather phenomenon, which
the movie refuses to believe, instead blaming it on UFOs, again not
looking for an alternative explanation. Additionally, the movie claims
there are numerous documents of UFO encounters of film, all of which are
confiscated though - but there are several high ranking military officers
who insist on actually having seen UFOs, documents about it or some such -
yeah right, as if military men would never lie ... Some questions are
raised in the movie though: What do the gouvernments of the world know
(and keep from us) regarding UFOs? What's the role of the Vatican? What do
the aliens want, are we just lab animals in their greater scheme? And
would knowledge of the possible existence of aliens on earth destroy the
world's economy? And why do we humans not demand answers from our
gouvernments? ... Basically, America's Alien Invasion: The
Lost UFO Encounters is a film that preaches exclusively to the
converted. It doesn't offer any evidence regarding UFO sightings or the
existence of UFOs at all, and it never questions its claims, it just
presents a series of utterly unconnected events that might be connected to
UFOs - or not, but the whole thing is by no means unbiased. However,
science fiction fans will find this well worth a look as a collection of
stories and conspiracy theories that have found their way into many an
alien invasion flick, plus the film features quite a bit of (original)
artwork that's weirdly reminiscent of sci fi pulp covers from circa the
1930's to circa the 1950's, so if you're not into the theories this film
is based on you might get a kick out of this nevertheless ...
