Robbie (Roger Kabler), Lance (Allen McCullough) and Marjorie (Mary
McLain) want to go on a roadtrip along the Atlantic coast to get over the
breakup with his girlfriend (in Robbie's case) and to rekindle their old
romance (in Lance and Marjorie's case). However, then they pick up
hitchhiker Pauline (Annabelle Larsen), a mysterious woman who reveals to
them only eventually that she's blind, and who soon has seduced both men.
But while Robbie has totally fallen for her, the others are starting to
distrust her, especially when they hear the stories about her being in
psychiatric treatment since the day her parents have been shot right
before her very eyes (she could see back then) and find a loaded gun in
her bag. Also, they more and more get the feeling that she - the only one
who knows the region - is leading them around in circles and is
deliberately lieing to them to get them to do her bidding. What they all
don't know is that Pauline indeed has a secret agenda, to track down and
kill the man who has killed her parents all those years ago, and to this
end, she has even stolen a computer from her psychiatrist Doctor Peterson
(John MacKay) that gives her directions ... Finally, having sneaked away
from the othrs one morning, Pauline arrives at her destination, the place where she's to meet the killer of her
parents ... but instead of him she meets Doctor Peterson, who now
confesses he has only made the whole
story up to give her life some reason and to teach her to stand on her own
two feet - of course under his secret supervision. This upsets Pauline to
such a degree that she shoots Doc Peterson, then sneaks back into Robbie's
bed - he is still sleeping when she returns - as if nothing has
happened, to continue the roadtrip with her newfound friends ... A
weird little thriller that's not without interest, especially in terms of
its basic plottline, but unfortunately, the whole thing is a bit too
dialogue-heavy to really reach its full potential, features a few too many
silly scenes, the male lead Roger Kabler as a constantly drunk slacker is
a bit too obnoxious, and the directorial effort is merely functional,
lacking both in the inventiveness- and the atmosphere-department. All of
this doesn't make Alligator Eyes a total failure though, just an
interesting but average film that fails to live up to its promise.
