After his honeymoon with June (June Blair) David (David Nelson) spends his
first day back at work, but promises his wife to meet her to lunch and/or
dinner, but nothing works out since he is always delayed ba his boss (Joe
Flynn), a client (Isabel Randolph) & a golf obsessed judge (Howard
Wendell), but somehow never manages to reach her on the phone to apologize
either, so he has to send his whole family (in real life & in the series
those are his father Ozzie Nelson, his mother Harriet Nelson & his brother
Ricky Nelson) to fetch June from wherever they were to meet each other. In the
evening, more than a little embarassed, David returns home, with a bouquet of
flowers, to find his wife not mad at him at all, & everybody involved in
the story having sent her flowers to make up for David's delay. The
Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet was an increcdibly long running sitcom
(from 1952 to 1966), and it did star throughout the real family Nelson as their
tv-counterparts, which alone should grant the series a place in tv-history. Seeing
the episode on hand from today's point of view though, it has to be stated that
it does not stand the test of time, the story being terribly old-fashioned
(& not in a nostalgic way) to the point of being arch-conservative, cheesy
(in a bad way) & without any real climax or
conflict (after all it's just about a guy having to work late), besides being
totally predictable & rather low on laughs.
