Your upcoming movie Genevieve Burns - in a few words, what's it about?

I don’t want too much to get out about the project just yet, because we are still in early stages as of this interview, but here is the plot outline for the film… when a priest stumbles across a supposedly possessed porcelain doll his life takes a turn for the worse.

Genevieve Burns is the latest and also last film of yours featuring your demon doll Genevieve - so what made you come back to her yet again, and what made you finally put her to rest? And could you ever be asked to resurrect her?

I felt like it was time, every great villain needs a great ending, this will be hers. Also in regards to her resurrection, as we horror fans know, even when it’s over, it’s not over… or is it?

Before we go on about Genevieve Burns, do talk about the initial creation of Genevieve and her evolution over the course of your movies for a bit?

Wow, I have to think back a bit on this one, Genevieve is five years old this year, and it’s been a busy five years. It all started off because I am a big killer doll movie fan and I wanted to make my own, in comes Genevieve. We’ve made countless movies with her attached at this point and all of them have done very well for us. She’s been working hard, that’s why I think it’s time for her to get some rest.

Besides Genevieve herself, what were your sources of inspiration when writing Genevieve Burns?

Movies that have inspired me in this subgenre are definitely Puppet Master (all of them) and Child’s Play (all of them), without a doubt.

Do talk about Genevieve Burns' approach to horror!

Genevieve Burns will be the most different and exciting film that the Genevieve character has been a part of, with a pretty exciting take on horror, that’s all I’ll say for now.

A few words about your overall directorial approach to your story at hand?

For this film my focus is mainly on character development and mood, you will see what I mean once this film is out there for the world to see.

You also appear in front of the camera in Genevieve Burns - so what can you tell us about your character, what did you draw upon to bring him to life, and have you written him with yourself in mind from the get-go?

Yes, the character is pulled from me and people I know, he’s the embodiment of humanity in a way, flawed but has to step up to the plate when times are tough. He’s not the hero you deserve maybe, but he’s the hero you got - and damn is it a fun character to play.

What can you tell us about the rest of your cast, and why exactly these people?

Well, Alan Maxson is Genevieve - at this point, his voice is synonymous with the character we have created and I wouldn't have it any other way. Also working with my brother Jordan Jacobs is alway a blast, so I had to get him in on this one too.

Do talk about the shoot as such, and the on-set atmosphere!

The project is still in the process of being shot as we speak, but the environment is the same as it always is on an NMJ Films production, sometimes stressful, but always a great time.

You've also co-written the score for Genevieve Burns with Jordan Jacobs (any relation by the way?) - so what can you tell us about that aspect of your movie, and your musical style and influences?

Yes, Jordan is my brother, and he’s been helping me with the scores on my projects since the 4 Minutes of Terror episodes that we did. We are currently coming up with some new haunting and epic sounds for the film that I think horror fans are going to really love.

As far as I know, Genevieve Burns is still in production - so how far along is it, and what's the schedule? And any idea when and where it might be released, however tentatively?

As of right now we are putting all of our focus on this project, to make sure we deliver here, you can argue this is the most important film we have done because of the importance in the death of our most popular character. So we are very focused and will take our time with this one for sure, we do not want to disappoint, also we want to send Genevieve off with a bang.
