Your upcoming movie Clara - in a few words, what's it going to be about?

Clara is an horror feature film now in pre production, produced by Moonlight Legacy Production, Sette Films and Urca TV, and is directed by Francesco Longo. Inspired by the Villa Clara legend, a story about an old haunted Italian manor.

As you just mentioned, Clara is based on an actual legend - so how did that legend catch your eye in the first place, how much research went into it, and how true do you remain to your source material?

In Bologna (Italy), there is a legend that revolves around an old manor: Villa Clara. Here the people say that there is the ghost of a child: Clara.
This house seems to be wrapped in a halo of mystery. In the nineteenth century, Clara, the younger of the Ludovisi (not original name) family because of her clairvoyance powers, was killed and walled inside the palace by her father, who believed that such faculties were the work of the devil. It is said that violence and brutality still exist today in those places and that Clara's spirit continues to wander through the walls of the dwelling.

Other sources of inspirations when conceiving Clara?

Other source are of course other Italian ghost stories and many tales of Edgar Allan Poe and Stephen King.

What can you tell us about the movie's approach to horror?

Clara is a ghost story with some bloody scenes and .....I don't want to say more. That would be spoilers! (laughs)

Do talk about Clara's intended overall look and feel?

The movie will be very atmospheric. We are working to create very dark, gothic photography. We are searching now the main location. Maybe it will be the true manor.... I hope!

You are also writing the musical score for Clara together with Aurora Rochez - so anything you can tell us about the "sound" of your movie yet? And what can you tell us about your overall experience scoring films?

The movie score will be composed by me and Aurora. She's a great musician, making great atmospheric and suspense horror scores. She also won many awards for the score of the upcoming horror movie The Wicked Gift by Roberto D'Antona. It will be very exciting to work with this talented artist.

Anything you can tell us about Clara's intended cast yet?

Clara's cast is very intersting, a lot of talented actors of Italian independent cinema:
Veronika Urban (Suspiria [remake], Claustrophobia, Nyctophobia), Roberto D'Antona (The Reaping, The Wicked Gift, Haunted) , Michael Segal (In Articulo Mortis, The Reaping, The Wicked Gift) [Michael Segal interview - click here], Annamaria Lorusso (The Reaping, The Wicked Gift), David White (The Reaping, The Wicked Gift, My Little Sister), Orfeo Orlando (L'Uomo che Verrà, Zoolander 2), Aurora Elli (Nyctophobia, Clara teaser trailer), Mirko Giacchetti (The Reaping, The Wicked Gift), Giuseppe La Rocca (Nyctophobia, Claustrophobia), Tommaso Preda (Nyctophobia, Clara teaser trailer), Roberto Ramon (Skizophrenia, Nyctophobia, L'Ispettore Coliandro), Eugenio Giordano Orsini (first time acting), Laura Spimpolo, Giulia Rocambole (first time acting), Caterina Cioli Puviani, Giada Cameriere, Andrea Monari.

As far as I know, Clara is still in pre-production as we speak - so at what stage is the movie presently, and what's the schedule?

Now we are searching for locations and sponsors. After that we're going to write the screenplay (the story is already written). We start shooting it at the beginning of summer 2018.

Even if it's waaay to early to ask, any idea when and where the film might be released, however tentatively?

The movie will be shot in English language. We'll try to distribute it outside of Italy, and we hope in the USA as well. We're looking for distributors to sell the movie when it is finished.

Any future projects beyond Clara?

Now we are fully immersed with this project. But sure we will be produce another horror after Clara.
