Your upcoming film
The Imp of the Perverse - in a few words,
what's it going to be about?
The Imp of the Perverse will be an adaptation of the Edgar Allan
Poe story of the same name. It’s about a man who commits a perfect murder
and then inexplicably confesses, leading to his own downfall.
With The Imp of the Perverse being based on the short story of the
same name by Edgar Allan Poe, how did you stumble upon the story in the
first place, and how close do you intend to stay to your source material?
I first read the story when I was a teenager, then was reminded of it when
Bill Oberst jr [Bill Oberst jr
interview - click here] said it was his favorite Poe story. So, we both decided to
adapt it into a film. Other sources of inspiration when writing
The Imp of the Perverse?
The visual style of the film was inspired by the short film of Maya Deren
and other surrealist filmmakers
You've written the script for
The Imp of the Perverse together
with your film's star Bill Oberst jr - so what was that writing process like?
Bill worked on adapting the dialogue, while I handled the visual elements.
Together, I think we came up with something eerie and thought-provoking.
What can you tell us about your film's apprach to horror?

Anita Nicole Brown |
Horror works best when it comes from something familiar, something human.
This film is a human story, about the evil regular people are capable of.
A few words about
The Imp of the Perversee's intended look and feel?
The film will be shot in black and white, in a surreal, minimalist style,
to put you directly in the mind of the murderer. Many shots will be done
from a first-person view, to put the audience in the killer’s shoes.
Do talk about
The Imp of the Perverse's cast, and why exactly
these people?
The film stars Bill Oberst jr and Anita Nicole Brown [Anita
Nicole Brown interview - click here]. Bill and I wrote
the film together, specifically for him. Since this is Bill’s favorite Poe
story, I figured he’d be best suited for the role. And I’ve worked with Anita several times in the past. I love working
with her and wanted to work with her again.
You're currently running a fundraiser for
The Imp of the Perverse
- so what can you tell us about your campaign?
We are offering some unique perks in this campaign, including a video
shoutout from our star Bill Oberst jr as well as executive producer credits
and physical props from the film.

Once the budget's in place, what's the schedule, and any idea when and
where The Imp of the Perverse might be released yet?
We have already begun shooting the film. We will shoot Bill’s
scenes in October, then the film will premiere at Willy Adkins' Dark Arts and Oddities
Convention on November 15th and 16th in Dekalb, Illinois [Willy
Adkins interview - click here].
Any future projects beyond
The Imp of the Perverse you'd like to
share? We will be doing an entire series of Poe shorts. We already completed one
based on The Raven titled Lenore, which you can watch here:

We will be adapting several other Poe shorts (to be announced).
