Your upcoming series pilot 00/Cyborgs - in a few words, what
is it about?
It's the last hope of human kind. There was the end of the world as we
know it, humans created robots to facilitate life (and wars), but soon we
lost the control of that technology and the millions of robots
we created destroyed our society in an apocalyptic war.
A group of scienctists from an underground vault discover and develop the
technology of cyborgs, a group of people with the
power of robots, but the feelings of humans. They have an incredible
adventure in the deep new world of the robots, to defend the last humans
still alive in the planet.
With 00/Cyborgs being a science
fiction yarn, is that a genre at all dear to you, and what can you tell us
about your approach to the genre?
I love sci-fi, I always
wrote scripts, treatments and concepts in that genre, but never had a
possibility to film anything long about it (always short films). The
strange part is, for this specific sci-fi TV show 00/Cyborgs
my approach is actually a western approach! I am actually framing,
moving the camera, using close ups and the rhythm with references to a
my mind. I think it's a futuristic western... we are in the
wasteland (the world after post apocalyptic war), that is similar to
a Far West, there are a lot of guns, and people very often are shooting to
each others. For
me it's a western movie in the future! Maybe t'is just my approach to
sci-fi, but I even see Star Wars as a western movie in the
What were your sources
of inspiration when dreaming up 00/Cyborgs?
movies by Sergio Corbucci and Sergio Leone. Also Japanese classics
like Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa and all his other movies,
mangas including the original series Cyborg 009 from 1964. But also
show Lost by JJ Abrams, Twin Peaks by David Lynch... but to see
these last inspiration you guys need to wait to see more episodes.
what I know, 00/Cyborgs is pretty action-heavy - so do talk about
the action in your pilot for a bit, and how are these scenes achieved?
action is really important, actually to get audience it's the most
important aspect, it's the entertaiment part of the pilot. This is why we
did the Kickstarter, my idea was to introduce the pilot with the
atmosphere, the plot, the characters and the feeling of 00/Cyborgs to then
ask "and now if you want to see the most epic battle between robots,
humans and cyborgs, help us on the Kickstarter and be part of it".
talk about 00/Cyborgs' overall look and feel!
a sci-fi superhero movie with a team work idea, narrated from a
western point of view... where hope is everything.
can you tell us about your key cast, and why exactly these people?
are young and fresh Hollywood starters, some others are in this
business from longer time (movies and TV shows), then we also have MMA
fighters and actors that are coming from theatre. There is a bit of
everything, it's a mix and likewise it will be a mix regarding the people you will encounter in the TV
show during the exploration of the wasteland. They are all talented
and it's a pleasure to work with them.
few words about the shoot so far?
I like to shoot in studios and have as
much control as possible, but for the first episode that was not possible for budget reasons. We where obligated to walk
for hours with the equipment to reach locations, it was hot, and I didn't have
much time because the schedule of all these actors was very limited.
As far as I know,
you're currently running a fundraiser to finish your pilot - so do talk
about your campaign for a bit, and what's the scene you're still due to
We are raising money to film the action/fight scenes, fictionally it will take place in the
practically, it will be a combination of desert scenes and a big green
screen studio with cables and flying actors. I can't wait!
Once the budget's in place, what's the schedule,
and any idea yet when and where 00/Cyborgs might be released onto
the general public?
We will need a couple of month to
collect the budget and organize the shooting, then another month of post
production. After that the pilot will be shared to the backers of the
Kickstarter and at the same time I will pitch to studios and TV channels.
I think the public outside the backers will need to wait till December to
watch it, so you better pledge :)
With 00/Cyborgs being a
pilot, where will the series ultimately lead us?
I wish I
can say more, I really can't wait to reveal all we have! Please stay tuned
and we will try our best to translate the story in a visual sci-fi TV show.
future projects beyond 00/Cyborgs?
Yes, I am working
in a classic western movie Purgatory,
the Return of Navajo Joe.
pilot's website, Facebook, Kickstarter, whatever else?
else you're dying to mention and I have merely forgotten to ask?
crowdfunding can really be the future of independent TV shows,
where the audience choose what is worth to be seen and what is not. The
interaction today between audience and creator can be so close
(thanks to social media life style), I just want people read to that ...
you buy a coffee easy for $3 dollars, why not donate a few to a project that
you may be interested in in the final version? I wish this to be the trend of
the new advanced society where we live.
for the interview!
Thanks to you! :)
